About OWNS — Our impact

What we have achieved

Last year was OWNS' first winter of operation. We offered accommodation for ten people each night, and had a total of 33 different guests accessing our centres. Of these, four found permanent accommodation by the end of the winter.

We gave not only respite from the cold, but a sense of dignity and respect, and an opportunity to engage and have helpful conversations with the St Mungo's, the City Council's outreach team.

Here are some comments made by guests:

  • "the volunteers made me feel welcome, respected and safe"
  • "without the friendliness and compassion of the volunteers and all venues the service would not have been able to run and some rough sleepers would not have made it through the winter".
